Youth Development Programme:
North Somerset Hockey Club runs a large and vibrant Youth Development Programme welcoming 6 to 16 year old boys and girls. Players can be selected to train and play with senior teams from the age of 13 with junior and adult coaches working closely to develop players.

At North Somerset we recognise the need to develop talent, through structured coaching and player mentoring, in a safe and friendly environment. Our coaching programme is designed by a qualified England Hockey coach and is in place to work with the England Hockey Player Patchway which develops talent and provides a route map for the development of youth talent. Our coaches are DBS checked and are experienced in positively encouraging junior players to develop and work on their core skills and teamworking.

Welfare and Safety:
The welfare of junior members is of prime importance to us. We have experienced welfare officers ready to offer advice and guidance on hockey or life matters where required. All North Somerset players are strongly advised to wear protective clothing when playing hockey, including:
• Gum Shield
• Shin Pads
• Hockey Glove(s)

2023/24 TRAINING SESSION TIMES:
Youth training sessions are on our new pitch at Gordano School on Sundays, we plan to run until the May half term, with breaks for Christmas and Easter. The sessions run every Sunday from 0930 until 1130. Years 1-7 for the first hour, and 8+ for the second hour.

We are currently running sessions for the following age groups all as mixed gender:

Under 8's as an entry into the game to learn the basic skills and develop their understanding.
Under 10’s
Under 12’s
Under 14's
Under 16’s

Please be aware that age or ability groups may be mixed in the early part of the season until we can balance out the right abilities to ensure everyone can get the most from the Sessions. Matches are mainly played on Sundays and will be arranged as often as possible, U10 and U12 play in the Avon Junior League Competitions and Under 14 and 16 play normally every other Sunday in a League around the Bristol Area. Parents are very welcome to attend and assist during match days to allow the coaching staff to fully focus on the player and match.
