Season of two 'alves 'Arry!

definitely a season of 2 halves!
- Tim Graham (aka Mr T)

Following a strong finish to the 2018/19 season, North Somerset 2nd XI had high expectations of pushing into the top half of their league (West Central 1). Unfortunately the first half of the season didn't go as planned. This was due to a number of injuries and unavailability of team regulars which resulted in the team narrowly losing the first 9 games of the season. The first points came just prior to the Christmas break with a well deserved 3-2 win away at Westbury UB C. An expected 2-0 win away at bottom of the league Keynsham A completed the first half of the season.

With an ever changing squad in the first half of the season, skipper Rob O'Neill made some tough decisions. He called up 2 home grown junior talents in Jack Colling and Dan Dudley to add to the pace of Sam Down and Sam Aldridge out wide. The over worked central midfield collective of Tom Appleford, Courtney Sandford, and Phil Toomey was bolstered by the return of James Moseley. The return fro injury of Adam Howard and an occasional cameo appearance from Mike Hooper provided support for Harry Croker up front. And finally, a stable defensive unit of Alex Milne, Tim Graham, and Graham Feboul, also supported a turn around in the 2nd half of the season.

These changes yielded immediate results with the team going on a 8 match unbeaten run, definitely a season of 2 halves! A most notable match was the 7-6 away win against Taunton Vale C, a tense affair which went right to the wire. Also, the away 4-2 loss against a high flying league winners (Old Bristolian's A) really shows that the team can compete with the best in this league, and has potential to push on. The match day spirit and approach from players has been a notable contribution this season. Had heads dropped following the first 9 defeats, relegation was a real possibility. The team finished in an improved 8th (8W/2D/11L/26pts), with the potential of a higher league position had the season not ended prematurely. To turn things around so dramatically is real testament to the efforts of the 2nd XI squad. Although there is still work to do, what has been built this season will provide a solid foundation to push on.
