North Somerset 2’s played at home this weekend against middle of the table Clifton Robinson D team. We had a few changes in the team, including a formation change. Instead of the usual 4 at the back captain Rob O’Neill changed it up to try and play a more attacking formation with three at the back with one defensive midfielder and two wide players and two attacking midfielders and two up front. We had a new addition to the team sheet this season with Toby Parker playing as one of the back three as Joe Merrett was still unsure of his fitness.
The game got off to a good start for North as early in the first half we got two short corners which Sam Aldridge managed to convert one into a goal with some excellent stick skills. However soon after North went one up, Clifton Robbies started to pile on the pressure and seconds before the end of the half they equalised, bringing the score at the break to 1-1.
North started the second half well, starting to press higher with their defence and managed to get two short corners, however could not convert these into goals. Clifton started to press very high in return and put a lot of pressure on North almost leading to a goal, but Graham Feboul has managed to clear off the line. After missing two further chances Norths heads start to drop and after a poorly executed short corner Clifton Robinson’s hit North on a counter attack and scored near the end of the second half. North still gave it their all and put all of their effort into trying to score an equaliser unfortunately, the efforts didn’t manage to find a way through and ended the match losing 1-2. Man of the match was Toby Parker.
