Men’s 3s came away from Westbury with a 2-2 draw in the days late fixture at Coombe Dingle. North went behind to a well executed penalty corner, which was dragged flicked into the top corner, giving goalkeeper Rob Orton little chance and making us wonder why we didn’t have face masks! Soon afterwards the Westbury goalkeeper got injured making a save from a North attack. Westbury took off the injured goalkeeper and continued with 11 outfield players, but not dropping anyone extra into their defence. This overconfidence went against them as North moved the ball around well and found Steve Puttergill in the D to fire into an unguarded net. Westbury decided they needed to rethink their strategy and found another player willing to put on the keepers pads. The second half was more even with lots of action, just not too much in either D. Late in the second half Westbury scored a second, neatly flicked into the corner of the goal through the one player they had who clearly could player at a better level if he was available more often. Rob Orton made a late great save from another Westbury penalty corner to end the game 2-2, a great team performance from North, with Rob Orton winning man of the match.
