North Somerset had a tough game away against top of table Bridgwater on Saturday. Half term and injuries had ravaged the North Somerset squad so a bare 11 took the field on a hot afternoon.
Bridgwater raced into a 3 goal lead within the first eight minutes, their left winger just had too much pace for the veteran North defence and he ran through twice early on to score. A third followed from more Bridgwater pressure and North feared a long hard afternoon. However, the team regrouped and started to keep the ball for longer, and the early impetus that Bridgwater had was gradually stifled.
They did score a fourth goal before half time from a break out with their centre forward beating the North centre back and coolly slotting pass the keeper.
North continued to hold Bridgwater in the second half, retaining possession better and mounting some occasional attacks. Captain Phil Toomey led by example with a whole hearted display, Steve Collarbone worked hard throughout and David Colling was magnificent in the deep midfield role.
Bridgwater finally got a fifth goal from a short corner, to seal the win.
