North Somerset B team had an early start against an Old B’s team who were still in the hunt for promotion whereas North were keen to try and get some points to ease their relegation struggle. Old B’s did have more of the play and pressure but North fought hard to try and deny them space and shooting opportunities. Jon Venn was tireless in midfield and young Jack Colling proved to be a real handful to the Old B’s defence, making many pacy runs down the right wing to provide North with their attacking options.
Finally the pressure told and from one of their attacks Old B’s created the overlap to finally beat the North defence. Goal keeper Steve Geary was having a good game for North and made an outstanding reflex save from a short corner on the stroke of half time to leave the score 1-0 at the break and North still clinging on to the game.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first, with Old B’s having more of the play and pressure and North mounting occasional counterattacks. After some prolonged pressure in the North D following an initial short corner the attempted clearance only found an opposition player who crossed for his forward to score. North pushed forward to try and get a goal to give them hope, but with the final whistle approaching Old B’s got their third goal. Next week North have a crucial game away against Weston Super Mare A who are one place and one point behind North – this really will be a winner takes all game in the relegation battle.
