North Somerset Men’s 3rd Team have had a tough start to the league with both games against what are likely to be the strongest teams. On Saturday, North hosted Westbury & United Banks 5th Team at Gordano. Despite losing 3 – 4, North’s performance in the second half was greatly improved and they finished the stronger with Westbury hanging on for their win. There were strong performances from Dan Dudley and Man of the Match, and debutant, goalie Nick Round. It was good to have veteran Neil Edwards back on the pitch after two years out injured, and Charlie Colling, on his first season in adult hockey, is developing well. Sam Caseley defended well but rather overenthusiastic attacking by Shaun Huxman led to him blocking at least two shots on goal from North! Phil Toomey scored two goals with Callum Black stepping up to save Toomey from a hat-trick jug, by scoring a penalty flick after a Westbury foot on the goal line. North visit Clifton Robinsons on Saturday and hope to benefit from the second half performance against Westbury with a strong start to the game as they seek their first points of the season.
