North Somerset Ladies 1st XI travelled to Bridgwater for their first league game of the season. Having gained promotion last season North were unsure of what to expect but were quietly confident having gained a number of exciting new signings over the summer. The game started brightly for the visiting team with some early pressure culminating in a well worked goal finished off by Helen Graham from close range. The second followed soon after with Lara Ford-Urch striking a superb reverse hit into the bottom corner leaving the goalkeeper with no chance of making the save. North Somerset continued to dominate the first half with their defence and goalkeeper having very little to deal with. New signing Lou Wilkins scored the third from a short corner, with the deftest touch deflecting the initial shot into the net and capping off her man of the match performance on debut. The second half began with very much the same theme as the first, with North Somerset being camped in the Bridgwater half for large portions. Lara Ford-Urch scored her second of the day with a ferocious shot which took the defender into the goal along with it. The fifth came from a trademark Michelle Harold super strike from a short corner with the goalkeeper only able to help it into the roof of the net! Bridgwater won a late penalty stroke which they converted to make it 5-1 with five minutes to play and then grabbed a second in the dying moments. With a comprehensive 5-2 victory North are looking forward to hosting Firebrands 3s next weekend.
