The badgers had a good training session on Sunday to be ready for what was expected to be a stern test with a visiting Bath Buccs side.
We played without an adult on the pitch and kept the formation as with the previous week, this time generally with Jack Colling in the lynch pin role in front of the defence which worked well and his distribution got all the players involved.
The first half continued with end to end play and a lot of turnovers, which also meant that both teams were able to break and have good chances with the defences tested at both ends, but with Bath getting the only goal of the half.
A thorough discussion with the team at half time from Molly and Colin pointed out some things to work on and we came out in the second half moving the ball well and pressuring really well got us the ball from the Bath players regularly and within 5 minutes a good break and the keeper was drawn to the winger driving in, as such an easy pass across left Josh A with an easy shot for the equaliser. We kept the pressure up and got another 5 minutes later through a good finish from Dan K who used his pace throughout the second half to get on the end of some long passes. Our last goal came from another good fast break with Will H receiving it and the impressive bath keeper coming out to block any shot, but Will sensibly slipped it sideways where the adult defender tried to bully Dan K off the ball, but he didn’t realise Dan was so persistent and he forced the ball in for 3-1 with 10 minutes to play.
Bath woke up a bit and put together some impressive passing moves and some great individual skill in the D found two gaols to make it 3-3 and probably a deserved scoreline for both teams.
The coaches voted that James K was the player of the match after showing some strong play in defence in the first half and some excellent battling and distribution from the second half. A trip to Westbury 1’s next week will be a hard test, but if we keep battling the way we have shown we should be a good challenge in return.
